A Photo Contest on Display
What is almost lost in the general selfie craze is that, over the centuries, innumerable have artists produced highly creative self-portraits. Photography has long been an important medium for the genre; digital technology, however, has profoundly reshaped the conditions of access, making the smartphone self-portrait or “selfie” a staple of contemporary culture.
Cyberlab invited photography artists and professional photographers to submit works of imaginative self-portraiture. They were given broad latitude regarding the photographic technique they would use; even digital editing and montage were permitted. The goal was to compile a widely diverse self-presentation of Austria’s creative photography scene.
A jury selected the most interesting forty to fifty entries for presentation in the exhibition.
