All Exhibitions (A-Z)
Founded in 1953, the housing association Wohnbauvereinigung für Privatangestellte (WBV-GPA) develops and manages numerous construction sites every year. Each project is different, and each is currently in a different phase of preparation, planning, or realization. But there is one thing they all have in common: construction sites are places in perpetual transition. Whether the building ground has just been prepared or the tenants are already moving into the apartments—the process always involves imagining what does not yet exist: the buildings to be erected as well as the new homes and the lives that will be set in and around them.
WBV-GPA asked the curator Vitus Weh to supervise the project 10 Construction Sites: ten artists (Marianne Greber, Sabine Jelinek, Sandra Kosel, Stefan Oláh, Klaus Pichler, Jens Preusse, Paul Schneggenburger, Katharina Struber, Helfried Valenta, and Riki Werdenigg) explore individual perspectives on this transformation. Rather than focusing on the progress of construction technology, their various approaches highlight the brief moments of ecstasy, of vitality and mystery.
An exhibition and a photo book (design: Markus Zahradnik/Schrägstrich Kommunikationsdesign) document the project. The exhibition is held at a venue that is itself undergoing transformation: a dilapidated tall warehouse that will be rebuilt from the ground up after the show closes.
