EMOP – European Month Of Photography

EMOP is a network of institutions dealing with photography located in eight European capitals (Athens, Berlin, Bratislava, Budapest, Ljubljana, Luxembourg, Paris, Vienna). All institutions, their directors or curators, are in charge of a Photofestival, for example the EMOP Berlin or the Mois Europeén de la Photographie in Paris.

This fall it’s finally that time again and the EMOP Berlin – European Month of Photography 2016 invites you to Germany’s largest photography festival. From 1.10.-31.10. 2016 more than 120 museums, cultural institutions, galleries, project spaces, embassies and photography schools in Berlin and Potsdam will present 130 exhibition projects and more than 300 events on historical and contemporary photography over the course of one month. Within the scope of the Berlin EMOP 2016 tour we are offering a visit to exceptional exibithions by: Helmut Newton, Alice Springs, Brnard Larsson, Gordon Parks, Adam Broomberg, Oliver Chanarin, Louisa Clement, Anna Vogel, Moritz Wegwerth etc.

During the two days spent in Bratislava, as part of the oldest photographic festival in Central Europe, you will get the chance to see the works of Chema Madoz (Spain), Zofia Kulik (Poland), the winners of the Sony World Photography Award 2016, a wide selection of American documentary works from the 1930’s including authors such as Walker Evans and Dorothea Lange and photographs from the war-time era of the Slovak Republic 1939-45. There will be a unique opportunity to attend the opening of the OFF Festival that presents the works of students and recent graduates of 15 European photographic schools. The offer also includes a look at the production of photographic books from Central and Eastern Europe in 2015-16 and a selection of 50 books from the festival in Kassel. The festival offers 35 exhibitions.

Budapest is ready to reveal some secrets of its history, but also offers many contemporary surprises. First it is worth to visit Ludwig Museum in Budapest diplays artworks from the internationally recognized collection covered the region contemporary art scene. The Capa Center is dedicated to promoting photography as an independent art genre. In November you will have the chance to see work by the most talented young Hungarian artists who have recieved József Pécsi Prize in last 25 years. You are able to visit the house of Mai Manó who was an imperial and royal court photographer of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. The magnificent building (called The Hungarian House of Photographers) with a unique historical sunlight studio acts as an exhibition space for classical and contemporary works of Hungarian and international photography. It is definitely worth visiting this historic city, alive with all kinds of art.

In November 2016 Vienna will have already been devoted to photography for the seventh time. Eyes On  – Month of Photography Vienna offers the audience a varied program with more than 150 exhibitions in museums, galleries and off-spaces. This year´s festival is focused on close cooperation with the Month of Photography in Bratislava in one jointly organized International Portfolio Review and the popular Eyes On Talks and Walks. Opening will take place on 24.10. 2016, at the MUSA, where “Looking for the Clouds”, a shared exhibition with the partner cities of the European Month of Photography (EMOP), is presented. Eyes On highlights: “Looking For The Clouds”, “Fremde im Visier”, “Unsichtbare Bühnen” (“Invisible stages”).
